Barry S. Surber, Chief of Police

I am a life long resident of Saltville. I attended McCreadys Gap, Saltville Elementary and R. B. Worthy High School. After high school I worked for the Washington County School system for four years. I joined the Saltville Police Department in June 1975 as a Patrolman. I graduated from the Southwest Law Enforcement Academy on March 16, 1976. I have completed numerous special schools throughout my thirty year career with the Saltville Police Department. I have held the ranks of Patrolman, Investigator, Captain, Assistant Chief, Acting Chief, and was appointed Chief of Police in August 1995. I am a life member of the Saltville Rescue Squad and held the rank of Captain for ten years. So as you can see I love Saltville. It is my home and I love and enjoy serving it’s citizens and all who visit here.
